Some kind of plot where the cast forgets an established character and is replaced by an imposter. The details can vary a bit, but it's really not a unique thing. As for Boruto the series, the fact that Naruto and Sasuke was nerfed to the ground to make way for Boruto killed the series for me. I want to like it because of the OG series, but its a travesty what Kishis assistant did to Naruto and Sasuke. IIRC is back, but the damage has already been done.
