I think its up to the store but Ive never seen a store that bans people from opening something before they buy it. Its when they leave it on the shelf or dont pay when it becomes a problem. But theres been plenty of times Ive opened a bottle of coke in eyesight of store managers and they dont give a fuck so long as I present the half empty bottle at the checkout and pay.

Its very similar to you broke it you bought it policies. Its not stealing unless you left the premises without paying
