It looks like the one on a TV I had that made it damn near impossible to connect an antenna because it constantly got in the way of my fingers when I was trying to screw in the antenna. Not sure, but I do recall it being a pain for that reason. It's probably to reinforce it or to reduce the risk the cable will get loosened. Though I don't know how loose it'd actually get from being brushed/nudged with how far recessed it is, not to mention it's between the panel/wall.
