At this point, I don't know if it was as much a dedicated attempt at normalization by the Republican party as much as it was the fringe loonies adopting a 'monkey see, monkey do' attitude. The reason I think this distinction is important is because it's already proved to be election poison in the 2022 midterms. Even moderate Republicans are already sick of the sore loser tactic; in two years it hasn't proven anything nor delivered any results, and only succeeded in making everyone involved (rightfully) look like morons.

Grumbling to oneself and others that the election was 'stolen' with the same energy as whining that the refs cost your favorite sports team the championship is one thing: publicly wasting time and money to out yourself as an even bigger loser than before is quite another, and I think people are quickly waking up to that. People like Trump, Greene, and Lake will continue to push it because they're arrogant idiots who don't know any better, but the midterms made me hopeful that the Republican Party at large is already abandoning it as a play that's doomed to failure.
