im my case what worked was not stressing out super hard about it and just dropping out shit i knew i shouldnt be eating. when i was doing calorie counting or fad diets i was constantly stressing out about what i was eating and eventually i would reach a breaking point and just gorge, realize it was easier than trying to do mental math constantly, and gain whatever i had lost back

What made it stay off was cutting out fast food and soda and learning more about foods that I could eat in smaller portions to stay satisfied which still taste good. I gave myself one night a week to just go nuts and eat whatever if I really wanted to, and I found after a few months I didn't really want to eat like crazy anymore because my body had adapted to eating better, so doing something like eating a whole pizza meant my "fun" day would be spent feeling like shit.

Just start thinking about what you're eating and try to stay at least decently active and you'll have a much easier time working off weight and keeping it off
