The adage "men don't cry" is just true, there's a physiological change that occurs in boys after puberty that makes it happen less which doesn't seem to occur with girls. That cultural value has a source, I know people on the left hate to think some values are based in nature but it's just true. Aside from that though, there aren't really any other emotional outbursts that men specifically are shamed for besides maybe giddiness at childrens' things. As for the school thing, that's also not what I experienced.
