also I want to go ahead and agree with this. I loved X-2's battle system the first time, but on my replay last year I thought it lacked something.

This for sure. It's really fun and flashy, especially for the time, but it seriously lacks the depth of FFX. There are a bunch of really easy cheese strats after getting a few spheres. You just pick one and steamroll the whole game with it. Using any other spheres or garment grids was just intentionally hurting yourself.

Whereas each area in FFX felt like a real step up in challenge with new attack patterns from enemies, and most every boss is some sort of puzzle that is really well balanced. You can always grind to make the boss easier, but you have to figure out the "trick" either way. On replays it ends up being super fun to use your knowledge to go way faster and beat bosses underleveled. Really rewarding to learn and optimize that battle system.
