Multiple profiles means multiple save files with only one copy of the game, physical or digital. I've done it on every Pokemon game on the system, as well as on Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel too. The only drawback is that your NSO subscription doesn't count for multiple profiles, so aside from free-to-download games (like the aforementioned Master Duel), you'd have to either pay for NSO again or play entirely offline.
