They are, for all intents and purposes, the same. A total stock market index.

VTSAX is a mutual fund, while VTI is an ETF. They are both Vanguard funds and track the total market, so its just a matter of where you are holding funds (brokerage vs Roth, IRA, 401k, etc) at the determining factor for which one you can buy.
