So is there currently no speaker or is the previous speaker still in place? Im studying for my naturalization test and one of the potential questions is who is currently speaker of the house.

I believe there is no speaker. The last Congress officially ended, which marked the end of the Speakers' term as well.

It's one of those weird in-between things, where for a few moments, America technically doesn't have a speaker, but we never think of it because it's not something to think about. It's the same thing with the president, as there's a moment between the last president officially leaving office, and the president-elect being sworn in, so there's a period of time (minutes to maybe a few hours) where America has no president every 4 years.
