Like they could have at least made it a Fog of War map or something. I feel like this point in the game is where the flaws in the structure of the game start to become apparent. Character motivation just starts to go out the window. It's kinda at its worst in Silver Snow, where (major SS spoilers) a random NPC just sort of walks up to you and tells you that Claude & Dimitri probably died offscreen and they just exit the game entirely.
