I make over 100k but even I realize that being able to max out retirement accounts is a HUGE luxury.

Most people do not contribute that kind of money into retirement accounts,

I understand that for you, and for me and others making high salaries, retirement funding is money we never even see, so we don't view it as "spending " money, but it essentially is.

This is like those posts were someone is saying they live paycheck to paycheck while making 400k. But their budget includes incredibly high savings, retirement, brokerages, etc, as if those are bills

sure but after watching my parents essentially go broke in retirement its pretty damned terrifying to NOT focus on maxing those accounts out

actually had to reduce my IRA and 401k contributions so I can focus on sending money back to my parents to help keep a roof over their heads at this point
