Y'all.. Woke up today feeling like trash. Started feeling sick yesterday, and couldn't sleep last night. Not sure if it's COVID, yesterday I tested negative. Nasal congestion and throat congestion with some coughing. Might take the afternoon off of work.

Let's just try to remember the spirit of these topics- the gifting and the generosity. It's one of my favorite semi annual topics on CE because of how generous people are. You never know what's going on in someone else's life, and if they are facing hard times.

I agree that some people just want to reap all of the benefits without contributing, even in cases where they probably can contribute. I think back to Aki_Sora- people like that are just in it for their own gain. But not everyone who hasn't gifted is that way or has ill/selfish intentions.

That said, if you want to gift someone something, do it. If you can't/don't want to, you don't have to. For the gifters, keep in mind that the spreadsheet is posted in each topic so you can monitor who is and isn't giving/receiving, and you can use that info to inform whether you want to gift that person or not.

Some people are luckier/more fortunate than others, so just try to keep that in mind when we're doing these topics. Don't let the Aki_sora bad apples spoil it for anyone else.

Well said. I was going to write up a large post, but I feel you were able to word it much better

As with any sort of giveaway, there is always the possibility that there will be people who show up just to take advantage/"game" the system, but for the 10 years that we have been doing this, I feel those types have been few and far between. Sometimes someone receiving disproportional number of gifts is just because they were a recognized user from CE, had a lot of "cheap" titles in their wishlist, or were simply at the right place at the right time.

And while it would be nice if they were to give back after receiving such generosity, I don't think it should be necessary. Mainly because, unless explicitly stated, we don't know their life/financial situation. Yes, they could be in it to pad their library, but it's also just as likely that the person is in a rough spot, and is unable to give back this time. And in those situations, the gifts would mean all the more (speaking from 2018)
