But I don't get something ~~Why would they leave their aunt's house? Because of a fight, seriously? At least she had food, no? If she did, then the boy was wrong to put her sister in that situation~~ They were kids and the main character overestimated his wherewithal. All there really was to it. Part of the tragedy was that while a huge amount of their circumstances were entirely out of their control, but some of their problems were his fault. And as a result, his younger sister who was way too young to have any agency got caught up by that as well.
