I don't remember. I used to read the manuals in old Blizzard games, that had all the lore. But its been a long time

Idk how much the games ever went into it, cause I never paid a bunch of attention to the in-game dialogue when I was a kid...

But there was a novel trilogy called The Sin War, and it has the origins of Sanctuary and the Nephalem spelled out in very specific detail. Basically, Lilith and Inarius were both tired of the eternal conflict and wanted to create their own world together.

Shenanigans occurred, and the Nephalem (aka humans) were created as their offspring.

Inarius and Lilith had some form of disagreement about what the next move should be. I'm fuzzy on the details but basically one wanted war and the other one didn't? I think?

But I digress. Lilith and Inarius both wanted the Nephalem for their own goals, but there was one named Uldyssian who basically unlocked his incredible nephalem powers (with some help from Lilith, who wanted him to defeat Inarius) and said "fuck all of you" and went on a rampage the likes of which the world has never seen.

It's a pretty decent series, honestly. There's a lot of cheese and silliness since it's a Richard Knaak work, but overall it's good stuff, and Lilith and Inarius are the focal points of Diablo 4.

Might be worth reading them if you care.
