Rey took the books with her.

Most people from Star Wars where nobodies. Besides Luke almost every Jedi we know came from normal parents.

How would that end the story line. The good guys still had to fight them.

Johnson made him the love interest, so he could not go that rout.
  • Just because she had a few books doesn't mean she intended to rebuild the Jedi order. Luke only gave her a very basic training and was still holding out on her, so she likely stole them to keep training on her own terms. If you steal a science book it doesn't mean you plan to train more science teachers, it just means you want to learn science.
  • We know very, very few family histories of named Jedi, and half of them are Skywalkers or in some way connected to the family. Rey not being part of an established heritage nor having a direct tie to one would have broken up that dynasty.
  • They would have still had to fight them, yes, but with vastly diminished resources, far fewer soldiers, and nearly no support. TLJ set up a scenario where it was possible, and indeed likely, that the Resistance would end up losing the war against the New Order.
  • Yes, and again, that's something that was set up in TLJ and not anything Abrams did. So it actually strengthens my argument that TLJ tried to push things in a new direction with the setting, plot AND characters.

If jedi ghosts can shoot lightning then why aren't they taking out the bad guys themselves saying billions of lives
