captpackrat 11/27/22 10:26:02 AM #10: | The Philadelphia Inquirer recently took a poll asking "What cheese belongs on a cheesesteak?" First place was American, Provolone came in second, and Cheese Whiz was third. The original Philly steak sandwich, invented at Pat's King of Steaks in the 1930s, had no cheese at all. Later customers began asking for American and Provolone, and occasionally Mozzarella. It wasn't until the 1950s that Cheese Whiz was served, and it completely displaced the other cheeses until the 1970s. Cheese Whiz outsells American by 8 or 10 to 1 at Pat's. --- Minutus cantorum, minutus balorum, Minutus carborata descendum pantorum. ... Copied to Clipboard! |
