The No Fun Topic

I think teams should find more creative timing to do it if they want it to work more

That's easier said than done when nobody can move until the ball is kicked.

I remember seeing somewhere a suggestion of do away with the kick return. Have teams just start at X yardline every time. And if a team wanted to try an onside kick they would instead start somewhere close to their own goal line and like 4th and 20 or something. I forget the exact numbers involved but it was along those lines

I don't mind the idea until some soft BS flag gives a team an automatic first down.

Yeah, this has been floating around for a little while now. This feels like a college gimmick, not something that belongs in the NFL. That being said, it almost feels like the way baseball stopped making teams throw 4 pitches for an intentional walk. Just say you want to walk them and they take the base. Just call every kickoff a touchback and start every team at the 25 for maximum boringness.

I get there's a player safety issue with kick and punt returns, but they used to be exciting plays. I just didn't realize nobody here missed them...!
