I stopped going to my exs family gathering after about 5 years when we together for a decade.

Thats my bloody point, just dont go or deal with it beforehand and tell them straight out you dont want to hear anything political at dinner and that is the price of your being there.

Deal with it like an adult and face the situation is all I am saying.

Wow you should grow up and go back to your ex's family gatherings. There have always been bad family members at gatherings, only a child lets that ruin an opportunity to be together with family.
