I haven't finished Village yet, but based on the first 5-6 hours, it's a huge drop-off from the surprisingly great story in RE7. Village doesn't take itself seriously at all, to the point that everything story-wise feels meaningless and/or cartoony. RE7 struck a good balance between serious and campy, but Village leans too hard into the camp department for my tastes. There are too many wacky ideas crammed together here, and I can only watch Ethan get dismembered so many time before I start rolling my eyes.
