Their real problem is streaming services. People aren't going to pay thirty bucks to go see a gripping historical drama, a gay romcom, or some brilliantly made auteur flick. I fucking love Pulp Fiction, but I'm not sure even it would fill seats at a theater nowadays. People go to the theaters to see blockbusters. It just so happens that the MCU is the premier blockbuster franchise with just enough continuity to convince people to see them all.
