The show started out as Valerie, but when the star had a falling out with the producers, they killed off her character, replaced her with Sandy Duncan and changed the name. I remember the network had a campaign where people would call a number to vote on what to call the show, and would choose between The Hogan Family, The Hogan Family, and The Hogan Family. It was briefly called Valerie's Family after Valerie Harper was fired.
