Define "accepted"

At the time there was enormous blowblack from Republicans to the fact that the virus while originating in China spread in the US due to Trumps complete mishandling/denial and downplaying of it.
And that all the anti-vaxxer arguments and covid denial was complete bullshit.

The fact we even had talking heads on TV every week for over a year saying that vaccines and masks don't work and telling people to meet in groups to build "Herd Immunity" is absolutely insane and completely scary for what's going to happen in the future when a new epidemic occurs

Compare how people responded to Covid vs how people responded to the Spanish Flu a century ago, we've regressed. We've turned viruses and biological facts into culture war talking points where "opinions" on facts are considered as valid as the fact itself.
