We see Rue at her absolute worst: she viciously verbally abuses everyone she loves, she's violent and crazy and only narrowly escapes sexual slavery. And this how we find her at the start of the next episode: shaking, whimpering, in the throes of opioid withdrawal, unable to so much as open a jolly rancher. We see her how she truly is: utterly pathetic. If you look up a list of opioid withdrawal symptoms, you'll discover they did their homework. And I fucking love the subtle detail of Rue's mom overfilling the glass of water. She's so sick of this, and yet, she cannot help but feel sorry for her elder daughter, to feel fear and pain.
