oh, another one... Giant Ichneumon Wasp. They look lovecraftian, with what appears to be a stinger that is about 2 inches long. They actually can't sting at all though and are completely harmless, in spite of being huge and terrifying-looking. Only the females have the protrusion and it's actually an ovipositor. They stick it into trees and logs when laying eggs. But that in and of itself is kinda creepy because they lay the eggs directly on the larvae of other wasps, which will be doomed to be parasitized and eaten from the inside by the Ichneumon larvae.
