You understand that there is a plethora of humans working on a vast number of projects that both address what is urgent now and what could be useful in the future, right? Humanity doesn't just work on one thing at a time. The amount of people doing that is severely outweighed by people who only do selfish things. People with money and power who could be reaching for the future but instead destroy the now.
