When I was in third year university, I wanted to take a fungal biology course, but they werent offered in the usual two semester stream. This was really annoying, but thankfully it was offered as a full course load summer school. So I took it then, of course. I met a really lovely guy with full Wolverine muttonchops/side levers who apparently took the course to improve his fungal cultivation knowledge. He was good people, if a bit out there and enshrouded in a slightly peculiar smell. It turned out to be a three week course, seven hours a day. That was pretty crap, because I was hoping to spend most of that time with my first long-term girlfriend. She wasnt in science, but we had many memorable moments on the Botany Lawn. Up to and including being heckled by one party of a very significant court case from the mid 2000s. It was funny in retrospect, but at the time it was slightly mortifying. We were heckled by a number of parties at various times, but amusingly enough each time was in response to a quite innocent situation.

Anyway, I digress. My fungal biology course was quite interesting and I carry many of the things I learned with me still. I cant quite escape the fact, however, a certain assessment. We had to watch the succession patterns of fungi on locally gathered animal dung. Oh, my eyes fairly watered with the hours wasted looking thorough a binocular microscope. After all that time, I cant help but muse that Jimmy Wales looks like my sample at day 6.
