Now that part, they cannot do. Nobody agrees to copyright assignment or even a formal licensing arrangement when they upload FAQs and guides. All content is owned by and can be rescinded by the author, not whoever owns the site, no matter how putrid the site becomes.

If Wikia tries to make a move like that they would be buried.

Let's hope that remains the case.

I'm more so worried about the swathes of legacy content here, often written by users who are long inactive.

It's so easy to tarnish that goodwill overnight. And we're talking about goodwill that stretches all the way back to what, like 1997?

I can't say I'm optimistic.
