Thunderbirds is a popular marionette TV series from the 60s.
The first episode was originally 25 minutes, but after seeing it the producers decided that it needed to be 50 minutes.
They could only produce 3 minutes at a good day, so they built multiple sets to be able to produce more sequences faster.
This turned it into the most expensive TV series at its time.
After its first season of 26 episodes, they decided to produce a full feature movie at the same time as the second season.
It was a success in over 50 countries, but they couldnt find any American publisher.
They felt that they couldnt continue without American support, so season 2 was cancelled after 6 episodes and a movie. A second movie was made some years later.
Reruns were always popular, and one in the early 90s was extra popular, with talk about a liveaction movie.
ITC Entertainment decided to ride that popular wave and bought the rights for an American adaption that they gave to Fox Kids in 94.
Fox kids cut it down to 20 minutes per episode, killing character development, because they thought kids couldnt concentrate longer.
All deaths, injuries and smoking got censored. Some stories got totally rewritten.
They used 4 voice actors that didnt change anything between characters. One character had two different voices in the same episode. It felt rushed.
14 episodes were made, only 7 aired... once!
Some episodes got a VHS release... with a different voice work. Same actors reading the same script more professionally.
ITC didnt give up after the failure, and decided to copy what kids looked at at the time... Power Rangers!
Turbocharged Thunderbirds had two cool liveaction teenagers in a space station discover Thunder Planet, where they communicated with and helped the Thunderbirds team fight the evil CGI villain.
It was... bad. At least they aired all 13 episodes. Strangely it got a rerun in Japan in the late 2000.
