Storforsen (English: great whitewater rapid) was the most impressive rapids in Sweden with a total fall height of about 35 meters (115 feet).
In the late 18th century, logging was economically important in that region of Sweden, but the problem was that the rapid drop was full of projecting rocks and big eddy potholes, which destroyed the logs.
So they tried to build a canal, multiple times. In the end, a guy called the Wild Huss took over the job.
It went well until a day in 1976 when the water pressure broke some walls and flooded the canal, causing Sweden's largest environmental disasters.
It drained a lake, rereouted a river, destroyed homes, farms, mills and a fishing industry, and strangely nobody died. The rapid disappeared and the place is now called Dead Fall.
Wild Huss would later drown, and the legend says that it was caused by a mob of angry farmers and fishers that wanted revenge.
