His mother was a woman with many emotional issues culminating in a phantom pregnancy. When he was "birthed", he simply manifested with his mother's symptoms disappearing. Campbell, as a Dream Construct, can consciously travel to the Far Banks and other people's dream worlds. He can influence other dream creatures to take on required properties. Whilst in the human world, he does seem to possess the ability to travel to wherever he likes, having stalked Rogue, seemingly instantaneously and without trace.
