So forgive me if a call his competence into question while he's amped up on adrenaline and SS chi immediately after spending 5 minutes in a fight with Frieza and he swears the controls look just as similar on Frieza's ship as they do his own. You can already tell he didn't have the competence to fly the ship on his own cognizance because when he tried to that very same "on" button mashing on Ginyu's ship he didn't even end up at home, he went to Yardrat.
