oh i misread that. i see what you mean but jesse wasn't totally unloyal to Walt that season. He looked for opportunities to use the ricin multiple times. Their S4 falling out happens because Walt doesn't have faith in Jesse and accuses Jesse of abandoning him and stealing his recipe despite Jesse not wanting to go to Mexico and coming to Walt for advice.

He switched over to Gus side pretty quickly IIRC. It wasnt until Walt poisoned the other kid that Jesse came around. Before that he was perfectly fine with Gus wanting to kill Walt, when the only reason Gus wanted to kill Walt was because Walt killed Gail, to protect Jesse.

So Gus played the only real card he had. He kept Jesse close, pulling him away from Walt, hoping Jesse would switch loyalties to Gus and give the OK to kill Walt.

It almost worked, but Jesse had too much of a connection to Walt already, and wouldn't give the OK. So Gus tries firing Walt and threatening his family to keep him at bay, but it has the opposite effect Gus is expecting. And Walt pulls the hail Mary to firmly get Jesse's loyalty back.

I wouldn't say Jesse turned his back on Walt. He was just manipulated into doing work for Gus for a while until Walt out manipulated Jesse

Yeah sort of. But the only reason Gus wanted to kill Walt was because Walt killed Gail, which he did as a last resort to protect himself and Jesse.

which he had to do because Gus was going to kill Jesse for what he did at the end of season 3. The fact that he turned on Walt at all is annoying. Walts only in that situation because of Jesses choices. And even more annoying because Jesse hated Gus in the previous season for his indifference to kids getting killed.
