I kinda get the idea that Megatron was outclassed by Autobot City tech overall, and we see he picks up a regular blaster that's strong enough to kill Optimus Prime. I also recall the gun being able to float or hover in the air and fire itself briefly. The movie was also super violent. The TV show usually only played around with straight-up scrapping a character like that. Didn't Megatron turning into a gun usually signal the Autobots to simply flee?
