PS1 was stuck with the crazy jank x-men vs street fighter, marvel vs street fighter and marvel vs capcom that only had the tag system in a mode where both sides has to have the same characters (and the loading was slow) whereas the saturn version had the actual tag system proper thanks to it's expansion pack that was pretty easy to get/the action replay can serve the same purpose and came packed in with certain capcom games by default.
