Disagree that just because something is open worlf it makes it automatically less atmospheric.
I didn't say it was "because" it was open world. I said it was open world AND much less atmospheric.

The first two games were full of claustropbia and great sound design, even when you were on the surface it was hostile and where you could go was limited with a constant ticking clock and confusing creatures. "home" is some ambigious place behind you that's in danger of being destroyed.

Exodus you're never a mile away from your best mates, you're always safe, there's never creepy sound or linear storytelling. It's just bumbling about as stuff happens.

And again that's not a shot. There's pros and cons to both. I just wouldn't call Exodus spooky or atmospheric.

The game literally has a "pet your wife" button. That's not something you get an atmospheric horror game.
