Damaged rim can lead to air leakage. Id be careful

Possibly. I do have a funny story around those lines though. I got new tires for my old camaro about 15 or so years ago and one of them kept leaking air. My dad and I took it to the tire shop to complain and they tried to sell us on the wheels' metal was oxidizing or some such crap and that is why there was a leakage and I had to buy new wheels. We went home, my dad removed the wheel from the car (tire still attached of course), put it in a bathtub and watched where the bubbles were coming from to find where the leak was. He then took a piece of chalk or marker or something and made a mark right where they came from. We went back to the tire shop and asked them to remove the tire from the wheel in front of us. Right where he put that mark, there was a little sticker on the tire that had been hidden by the rim of the wheel. They removed the sticker and I didn't have problems anymore after that.
