So, despite the fact it has the asshole tag, I feel like this is about 50/50 or 60/40 in favor of the OP being the asshole.

I feel like OP is the asshole here because the plant originates on his property. I feel like since it is growing over into the neighbor's property, he should deal with it. If it was contained on just his property, I feel he wouldn't have any sort of obligation to do anything. I find it odd, though, that the OP refuses to remove it even though he admits it causes him issues. He gets a rash when he trims it down.

This doesn't touch on any laws, since I don't know where they live, but in some countries or areas the OP likely could be sued or face legal action.

The OP even admits he likes it because it stops the neighbor's kids from playing in an area of their own lawn.

I don't know. I am definitely in the asshole camp but people seem divided the further you go down the comments.
