It's the way that big mass gatherings snowball: people want to go because they've seen a lot of other people going, and they don't want to "miss out". I reckon they want to feel part of some historic event, and to be able to say to their kids or grandkids, "We we there!"

Never mind the fact that we've all just lived through a global historic event already, which genuinely did touch the lives of hundreds of millions of people: the pandemic. By comparison, all this corpse-sniffing is just a fart in a teacup.
