These older types are flippant with this stuff. I don't get it. It's like they think they're bullet proof or something.

I kinda know how that feels. While I myself haven't missed anything up to now because I was sick, I did miss things that got cancelled because of the pandemic as a whole. I got my money refunded, but I don't think the thing I was going to see will ever happen again because the group isn't whole anymore. That really bummed me out. I guess if I had gone, I would have come back sick like what happened to your family on that cruise.

It was probably just your immune system overreacting. The COVID vaccine isn't like other vaccines. It doesn't use a weakened or dead version of the virus. It takes a protein from the virus that your immune system can recognize and fights that. It's kinda like a fire drill, only your immune system really thinks you're "on fire" even though the protein can't actually do you any harm. You might have felt like shit, but you were never in any danger.

Yeah, makes sense. In my family's case, they weren't flippant. No anti-vax moronic bullshit lol. In fact I was late getting mine compared to other adults in the family (in fact I was on the "my immune system can deal with anything, no worries" train briefly, like, before it went from "people are getting sick from this thing" to "full on pandemic." Once the seriousness was clear, I was serious about it). I think in the case of the cruise, it was stircraziness. It had been postponed. There had been several gatherings after lockdowns (family abided by all lockdown stuff afaik). I only attended a few. Everyone was vaccinated and boosted, so no one was super worried I guess. A lot of other gatherings or expected gatherings were rightfully cancelled though, especially in the early days (and moreso before kid vaccines were available because several cousins have young children)

I can say the cruise thing is a bit amusing given I don't expect any long-term issues for anyone given vaxx status, but considering a) it was cancelled the first time because full pandemic pre-vaccines was when it was supposed to happen initially, b) my stepfather got Covid less than a week before they were set to leave and c) my step-uncle (his brother) had kidney stone issues leading up to it... it just seemed like a "cursed voyage" lol. The fact that several who went came back with Covid kinda adds fuel to that idea in spite of the fact that I don't believe in that kind of shit lol. Still, if I had been invited, I would have expected the worst probably.

Maybe? (Immune system paragraph). I dunno. My immune system has always been just above top tier. I had swine flu back when that was a thing. Missed 1 day of work. No issues with first shot, a few hours of feeling shitty on 2nd, like I mentioned. The booster being the one to kick my ass was bizarre. I even asked the people when I got it if that was something to expect and she was like "lol no it's just a half dose." I didn't think I was in danger and I don't regret the booster. Willing to get another now that that's an option and if I have to deal with another week of bullfuck, so be it. I just find it puzzling. More than 90% of feeling sick in my adult life has been related to other factors >_>
