Yeah the second Dragon Quest is painfully slow and boring like DQ1 for the first 90% or so and then incredibly cruel and poorly designed for the final stretch, with a dungeon full of invisible pitfalls that send you all the way back to the start (with a really high encounter rate) and enemies who can randomly cast a spell that straight-up instant-kills your whole party.

I haven't played enough of 9 to rate. I'd probably give the story around a 5 if I beat it which is the same score I'd give all the other games in this series.
