Even if we can find other "unapproachable evils" in history, I think Hitler is a recent enough and easily understandable example of said evil, that he should be the example we point to stop people from going beyond that.

It's a bit of a cop-out maybe and comparing everyone and everything to Hitler and Nazis devalues the weight they should carry but that's the age of discourse we live in

The distinction I was trying to make here is that it's very possible, and plausible even, for someone to be as bad as Hitler. Especially when you look at exactly what Hitler did and how he did it, comparisons of Hitler to Trump start becoming a lot more accurate.

The go to rebuttal is usually "Trump didn't kill 6+ million people so he can't be as bad" but neither did Hitler technically. 6+ million people were murdered because Hitler found enough Nazis and SS fanatics willing to kill 6+ million on his behalf which is the crucial component of the Nazis that Trump lacked.

So when people say Trump didn't kill 6+ million people, it has more to do with our politicians and armed forces not being willing to do it, rather than Trump's alleged morality over Hitler.

And people were killed / subjected to medical procedures they didn't consent to while in ICE custody including forced hysterectomies & sterilization. Homeland security was literally kidnapping Floyd protestors off the street in unmarked vans. Just that the people who perpetrated these crimes were mercifully only a small number of them. And not enough to build up the momentum Hitler had that led to the Holocaust.
