Yeah I agree. Politics exists to make family life possible I guess so to undermine that defeats the point

However to a certain point there is a threshold where a family member can compromise their status to someone else in the family. If you have never had to kick someone out of your family for being toxic consider yourself lucky

I agree, Im lucky. But I also pull away from political conversations if I know it's going nowhere. I know that that's not an option for everyone, that's where the luck plays a part. Id have no way to tell how much it is what Im doing and how much it is who the person Im talking to is. But, I've never found myself in a situation where I couldn't just walk away and it not go back to normal next time.

I understand why politics is such a big part of people's life. But the wild part to me is the expectation that no matter what someone is dealing with outside of politics, they still have to complicate their life to appease certain people. Some people just have way too much on their plate to throw away the support of everyone who isn't politically aligned with them. Now it's you being lucky, if you can afford to do that and not destroy your life in the fallout. I know Im not kicking out my mental or financial support beams just because I have to avoid certain conversations to keep them. Luckily, I don't have to make that choice, but if the family I rely on was MAGA and everything else was the same. I probably would of self deleted in my 20s when they were my only outlet and support. Then my nieces wouldn't have an Uncle to step in where their dad's haven't because their mom had different political beliefs than me. And no one would of cared, because they moved on. No one would of cared what happened to my innocent nieces caught in the middle of all this. Because they never stick around long enough to see the ripple effect from their actions

The idea that life is so simple you can just immediately distance yourself from anyone who is politically manipulated into believing fucked up shit isn't something I can subscribe to. I also wamt to stick around and see if I can contribute to their growth in a different direction.
