Felony is a pretty good qualifier but if you wanted it to be stricter, if you kill someone then giving up your right to vote is only fair because you forcibly removed someone else's ability to vote permanently

The problem is that you have to assume law enforcement is acting in good faith when dealing with minorities and given that this is Mississippi we're talking about....fat chance.

I mean, it's not particularly rare for black men to be charged with murder in incidents where it was either self-defense or, better yet, they're outright innocent. Not to mention it's easy as hell for law enforcement to pin a crime on somebody if they really wanted to.
