When he was a 20 week fetus, he was diagnosed with a rare congenital heart disorder called hypoplastic left heart syndrome. We almost terminated the pregnancy at that time for medical reasons...We ultimately decided against that.

Tomorrow, he will be getting his first of three open heart surgeries that are necessary to keep him alive. The success rates for these surgeries have improved dramatically in the last 5 to 10 years, but they still aren't the greatest. Though we have seen and met many people with this condition live well into their 30s (these surgeries have only been around since the 80s so there isn't a lot of data of people living into their 40s and 50s with this condition).

It's been very tough week in NICU waiting for tomorrow. And it's gonna be an even harder week, month, year ahead. Not sure why I'm typing all this out. Just... wish us luck with the surgery I guess.
