The fanbase who enjoys souls is vastly different from those who go after gatcha games, loot boxes, etc.

Somehow I'm not confident of this. The really resolute but smaller core fanbase sure but there's so much overlap now and it feels like a lot of people will go for anything that's popular enough. Even if it sucks, as long as it's popular.

Edit: And that other post you did about the game not targeting casuals. I don't know about that. It liked to show off George for the mainstream buzz, the game feels more spectacle oriented than the others, spirit ashes dumb the difficulty down and bosses seem designed around the idea you did indeed use them, the open world/exploration thing and all the talking bosses make it easy to feed to the journalists for a good score.
