Swedish okay, so it's not just a language barrier thing Growing up in the south of USA, it was drilled in our heads as kids that "they/them/their"is plural and a kid would be corrected anytime they used "they/them/their" to refer to a single person, so that's why it initially felt so awkward for me at first. I must have been 2nd or 3rd grade in the late 90s.
