"Violence are of two types; physical violence and emotional violence. Whoever commits one, he may be paid with the other. This is exactly what happened to Salman Rushdie. He committed emotional violence against billions of Muslim, but a single Muslim committed a physical violence against him."

Stuff like that. Really freaky seeing people say this and it not being taken down

That's stupid.

Don't get me wrong. I fully agree that words can cause harm, with that harm being non-physical. And I'm fine with someone calling that "violence", as long as a distinction is made that the violence is different than physical violence. The point being, "there are levels to this shit."

But going and trying to stab and kill someone for is NOT an appropriate level of recourse.

The "words are harm" crowd on social media have been screaming stuff like this for YEARS. Change the topic from Rushdie and Islam to Chapelle and trans people and you'll see a complete script flip in terms of whether "emotional harm" is a serious problem or not.

I mean, emotional harm is a serious thing. We can talk about the nuance between it and physical harm , but emotional harm is very serious.

I mean, I do hold speech to be a very important thing. And precisely because of that, I acknowledge all the negatives that can come from speech.

You can't wax lyrically about how speech is so wonderful while then saying people shouldn't let words impact them.
