The filmmakers always insisted that the infatuation was not sexual. There's a scene in an earlier draft of the script where a monkey picks apart a flower while a captain jokes about it being the dawn of human intelligence. Ann getting her dress ripped off was supposed to be a callback. The novelization which was released to coincide with the movie also stated that Kong was merely intrigued because he'd never see a woman with that color hair before.

Now, the 1976 version... Jessica Lange's character is like a cat in heat in Kong's palm. He also pulls her top off and gives the audience a blink-and-you'll-miss-it bit of exposed boobage. It's not the best film incarnation of Kong, but it's worth checking out that scene.
