IMO, as long as you can demonstrate the knowledge that would be taught in that subject, you should be able to become an apprentice teacher. And if through that you demonstrate that you have the ability to teach, you are able to become a full teacher. My observation was/is that both mastery of subject AND understanding of teaching skills/dynamics are critical for teachers.
